Build a World of Play (BaWOP): Disability Screening & Early Intervention

The Challenge

Disabilities in children too often go unidentified until it’s too late for early intervention to make its full difference — especially in counties with limited access to specialist health services.

My Role

Supported planning and field coordination of multidisciplinary screening outreaches, working alongside audiologists, ENT specialists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, physiotherapists, occupational and speech therapists, and child protection officers — plus caregiver sensitization and referral pathway support.

Impact

More than 4,700 learners with disabilities screened across multiple counties, strengthened referral pathways between schools and health facilities, and closer collaboration between Kenya’s health and education sectors.

Helping move disability identification from late intervention to early support and timely access to services.

Let’s work together

Building something in disability inclusion or education?

I take on a select number of projects and speaking engagements each year. If you’re working on something that could benefit from my experience — a training, a study, a policy conversation — I’d like to hear about it.
